ENVRI Community
ENVRI is a collaborative network that brings together environmental research infrastructures, projects, networks, and stakeholders to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges.
Research infrastructures (RIs) provide essential facilities, resources, and services that accelerate scientific achievements and promote sustainable research.
The ENVRI Community comprises 26 European RIs focused on various aspects of the Earth system, including the atmosphere, ecosystems, marine environments, solid earth, and life on Earth. These infrastructures provide high-quality, open, and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data across the four main domains of the Earth system:
- Atmosphere: Studying processes that influence Earth’s atmosphere, from the troposphere to the magnetosphere.
- Ecosystems: Investigating the interactions between biological, physical, and chemical processes that affect ecosystem viability.
- Marine: Researching both seawater and freshwater, including the cryosphere, to understand aquatic environments.
- Solid Earth: Examining the planet’s internal structure, dynamics, and surface features, including land, agriculture, and urban areas.
- Multidomain: Addressing interactions between land, air, water, and life on Earth, as these components are interconnected.
The ENVRI community adopts a holistic approach to studying the Earth system, advancing scientific knowledge needed to address rapid global changes impacting both society and the planet. EMPHASIS, part of this network, contributes to the Biosphere and Ecosystem domain, facilitating collaboration among environmental RIs to jointly address global challenges.
